How
to be a better athlete?
Visualization in sport
Visualization
is a method commonly used by elite athletes. Visualization, imagery or
meditation is a process of making a mental image of what you want to
happen in real life. Guided visualization is conscionsly controlling
the images or directing an athletic script in your help. An example
of guided visualization you have been using but haven't been aware
of using is when your coach is teaching you a new skill. Before
performing it you create a mental image in your mind how the skill
should look.
When
it comes to me, the night before a game I lay in bed and picture
myself scoring points. Making ase serves. Digging the ball and in the
end holding a huge trophy and celebrating with my teammates. Before
practice I stand in my room with a ball in my hand. Put out my right
hand with the ball in it, picture myself throwing it and making an
ase serve. I picture myself on a huge volleyball court playing for
the National Team or playing for Stanford with thousands
of people watching so I could get use to te feeling, the pressure.
I've been trying visaulization for the past year. It has helped me in
many segments of my performance. I've became more focused while
playing, my technique has improved, I don't think about the movements
they come naturally. From my experience this is a great and
beneficial technique which helped my improve my performance on court.
Remember
I am not an expert in this field I speak from my own experience and research.
